Our story written by The Alpaca Man (Jon)
Welcome to Lower Bush Alpacas

Lower Bush Alpacas started when my children Harry and Freddie visited an alpaca farm in September 2018 where Harry was in his element. Just being with alpacas created a feeling we couldn't get enough of and so was born our alpaca love! The alpacas were so curious about Harry and they became best friends immediately. With support from my Dad, Roger, and his wife, Hilary, we were excited to welcome our first five male alpacas into our family. The alpacas came to their new home in Cuxton, Kent in July 2019.

The first five boys, Aubree, Benjen, Davos, Marsden and Sunset setttled into their new home well. Many hours spent with them, getting to know their individual personalities, gaining their trust through making them feel safe and comfortable, meanwhile working hard to learn all about taking care of them. Further education came from attending husbandry days at Spring Farm Alpacas, helping ensure we had the knowledge to look after these amazing animals properly. This was followed up with CameliDynamics training at Simply Alpacas in Worcestershire.

In the new year of 2020, we opened for Alpaca Experiences, beginning with Alpaca Walking. But it wasn't long before we had to close, in March, during COVID. This gave us time to tweak a few things and further train the alpacas for other experiences we had planned. We were however able to stay open for vulnerable people who benefited from the support that our team and our wondeful alpacas are able to offer. This is when we started running Wellbeing sessions which soon turned into Nurture Groups with schools.

We re-opened when we were allowed to and so was born the Picnic with Alpacas experience. Up to 6 people (The Covid Rules) were allowed to meet outside. We advertised this and everyone booked up to get outside and start rebuilding their lives near the end of a long pandemic.

We now have 15 alpacas, 5 pygmy goats and we offer a range of wonderful Alpaca and Goat Experiences: Walking, Petting, Picnics, Keeper Days, Birthdays, Coroporate Team days as well as Off-site visits to Schools, Care homes, Weddings. We have run Nurture Group sessions with the National Autistic Society, worked alongside The City of Rochester School so they can provide BTEC qualifications and AQAs in Land-based Studies using our farm as a facility. We have also run husbandry courses and voluntary days.

We would like to build on our SEN provision and start working alongside more schools and educational centres.

See our social media accounts for the daily goings on around the farm.
